NEET 2024 results have sparked a major controversy and shaken the foundations of India’s medical education system. Several critical issues have been raised regarding the fairness, transparency, and integrity of the examination process. But do you know how it all started and who raised questions about the credibility if NTA?
Alakh Pandey, the founder of the popular educational platform Physics Wallah, was the one that raised concerns about the NEET 2024 results, claiming that they appear to be questionable and potentially a scam. Pandey has highlighted several issues that he believes warrant further scrutiny and investigation. Here we’re going to discuss all the issues he has raised and the outcomes of his efforts but first we need to know what NTA is and how it works:
NTA: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is an independent organization established by the Government of India in 2017 to conduct entrance examinations for admission and fellowships in higher educational institutions across the country.
NEET: NEET stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. It is the single national-level entrance examination that candidates must clear to gain admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses in India. Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), NEET is mandatory for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other medical/dental programs across the country, including government and private colleges.
Now let’s have a look at what made Alakh Pandey raise questions at NTA and the steps he took against NTA afterwards:
Unusually High Number of Perfect Scorers :
Pandey pointed out that an unusually high number of 67 candidates scored a perfect 720/720 marks in NEET 2024, which is significantly higher than previous years. He argued that if these students were to retake the exam, they may not be able to achieve the same perfect score, indicating possible discrepancies in the scoring process.
Mismanagement at Exam Centers :
Pandey exposed the mismanagement at certain exam centers, such as the Sawai Madhopur center where Hindi medium aspirants were given English question papers and vice versa. This caused students to lose valuable time during the exam, putting them at a disadvantage.
Grace Marks Awarded by NTA :
Pandey highlighted the issue of grace marks awarded to 1,563 students by the National Testing Agency (NTA). He argued that this decision created dissatisfaction among students and affected the overall credibility of the results.
Seeking Independent Probe and Re-examination :
Pandey filed a PIL in the Supreme Court seeking an independent probe into the alleged discrepancies and malpractices during the NEET 2024 exam. He urged the court to order a re-examination of the medical entrance test to ensure fairness and transparency.
Questioning Undisclosed Discrepancies :
Pandey questioned whether there are other undisclosed discrepancies that could further erode students’ trust in the NTA and the exam process. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to uncover any potential irregularities and ensure the integrity of one of the most prestigious exams of this nation.
Immense Support To Alakh Pandey By Parents and Aspirants :
Parents from various states, including Gujarat and Haryana, have traveled to Delhi to personally convey their grievances about the NEET 2024 results to Pandey. Their concerns stem from allegations of paper leaks, the granting of grace marks to 1,563 students, and the unusually high number (67) of students receiving the perfect score of 720.
NEET aspirants, such as eighteen-year-old Ashish Yadav, have expressed their admiration for Pandey’s unwavering support. Yadav, who closely follows Pandey’s videos, believes that he is the only one truly representing the voice of NEET aspirants. The young student remembers Pandey’s words with the same dedication as he does his syllabus.
Alakh Pandey Advocates for Affected Aspirants :
Pandey is currently representing 20,000 aspirants who were affected by the NEET 2024 results. The grade inflation this year is 4-5 times higher than last year, with scores of 640-650 now ranking much lower compared to previous years.
Pandey Provides Legal Updates :
Pandey’s YouTube channel has become a source of information for students and parents, as he regularly uploads videos discussing the various issues pertaining to the NEET 2024 results. He also provides updates on the legal battle in the Supreme Court, which he is pursuing on behalf of the medical aspirants.
Hence we can conclude that Alakh Pandey’s relentless efforts have led to some positive outcomes and not only the students but their parents also get a sigh of relief and a ray of hope that they’ll get justice someday.
